2022 Pa Forward® Adult Programming Awards

Our stories

The Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA) launched the Pa Forward® initiative in 2012.  The Pa Forward® initiative strives to move Pennsylvania forward through the programming which our libraries carry out in five specific literacy areas: basic, information, civic & social, health, financial.

The Pa Forward®  Literacies Team proposed the creation of a new award to recognize the great work libraries are doing in adult programming.  The PaLA Board approved the creation of this award to be launched in 2022.

The intent of this award is not to compete with the Association’s best practices awards in early learning or the awards issued by the association for service but as a complimentary adult services award to show that libraries focus on life-long learning.

Five awards will be given at the 2022 PaLA Annual Conference.  All program submissions should be/have been completed between October 1, 2020 and May 31, 2022.

Programs may be submitted in one literacy area.  They could be in-person, virtual, or passive.

Print Application Here!

The applications for each literacy area will be reviewed based on the matrix of:

  • the extent to which the program furthered proficiency in the literacy area.
  • the extent to which the program attempted to meet their community’s needs in a creative way.
  • the extent to which the program takes advantage of the resources available at that library (this will be a way to equalize the differences between large and small libraries).
  • the extent to which the program raised the stature of the library in their local community.

Additionally, one program will be selected as the Pa Forward® Best Adult Program from the pool of applicants. The award will recognize this year’s most creative and/or most influential adult library program.

It will be selected from the winners of programs selected in the five literacies.

You are permitted to submit more than one application from each library system or branch. Please be advised you may not enter the same application in more than one category.

All applicants will be notified whether or not their entry is selected for the award.

All applicants will be considered for inclusion in the Pa Forward® Literacies in Action recipe book: Vol. 3.

The application will be released before the end of March to give applicants two months to apply.

The deadline to submit the application will be May 27. Winners will be notified by end of June.

Please also note that in a few weeks we will be releasing our 2022 Virtual Programming Library Application.  You may apply for both an award and inclusion in the Virtual Programming Library if your program is a virtual program which was recorded.
